Matt & Nat's wheelie big adventure!

The only game in town

We’re now riding in the vast Namib-Naukluft Park, one of the world’s largest national parks. We’re at the appropriately-named settlement of Solitaire, which is just a campsite, a petrol station and an excellent bakery/cafe out in the desert.

We were first told about the excellent Solitaire bakery apple pie over 200km away - it has a well-deserved reputation. Real coffee too (we've been drinking "ricoffee" for weeks - a cheap instant coffee and chicory blend).

Hey Simon, hope things are good with you. How’s the trip planning coming along? The weather here is much improved as it doesn’t seem to rain in Namibia. Big temperature variations though – one night it is below zero and the next night it’s 15 degrees. Days are anything from 13 to 32. We see wildlife everyday but nothing super exciting yet – just ostrich, antelopes, etc. Can’t wait to spot an elephant! N&M

Always enjoy reading your updates on your travels. Love that last pic – a natural anti-theft device. I can just imagine the sound of that car alarm going off!

Bloody car alarms – all the other tourists at the campsites have cars with alarms and they’re forever going off – most annoying in the middle of the night!

Gee that would be annoying: “Ow, ow, ooh, ouch, oo, ow…”

Funny eh. It’s for the tourists – no locals for miles.
